About Our Curriculum
Our curriculum is founded on USA Lacrosse’s core values of athlete development. Each core value weaves through the fabric of the coach development program.
What makes USA Lacrosse coach development unique? At our live clinics and workshops, coaches will learn and also apply our teaching tools in real-life scenarios. Often, coaches learn something in a live training and then use it the very next practice or game.
Our hands on clinics and virtual workshops are also designed to align with best practices for:
- Teaching Coaches How to Teach
- Developmentally Appropriate Coaching
- Adult Learning Theory
- Designing for Development
- Physical Literacy
- Positive Coaching
USA Lacrosse offers two types of live training, in person and virtual. Either option currently satisfies the live training requirement for coach certification. In person workshops are hosted by USA Lacrosse member leagues and are scheduled upon request. Virtual coaching workshops are scheduled monthly.
In Person Clinics
In Person Clinics provide coaches an opportunity for hands-on training. Perfect for those tactile learners, in person clinics focus on teaching coaches how to teach, regardless of their prior level of participation within the sport. Coaches will learn how to teach both individual and team techniques, tactics, and strategies as they move through each level of coach certification.
In person clinics teach content through active participation in games and activities. Coaches who attend should be prepared for a hands-on training experience.
Coaches must attend and participate in the full session in order to receive credit for attending. To optimize the learning experience, we recommend taking the workshops in order (Level 1, 2, then 3) whenever possible.
All times listed for in person clinics are local to the time zone of the specific geographic location of the training site.
Virtual Coaching Workshops
Virtual Workshops provide coaches with tools useful in planning for their season. Virtual workshops focus on the theory behind optimal coach development. Content is taught through a series of short lectures, discussion questions, and time for reflection.
USA Lacrosse Virtual Coaching Workshops meet the live training requirement for coach certification. Participants register for the workshop and attend live, virtually, at the time of the event. Coaches must attend the full session, with video on, at the specific time in order to receive credit for attending. These events are not “pre-recorded” and credit is not available for watching a recording. When registering, please keep in mind that workshops are currently scheduled in Eastern Time (please adjust the timing of the event for your specific time zone).
